This is one of the most important cutlery patterns: "Altfaden" (also known as "Augsburger Faden") is the embodiment of classical cutlery. This design was created in the 17th century as a variation on the "Spaten" form. Its distinctive feature is the "thread" ("Faden" in German) running round the handle as well as the "heart" found at the end on each piece.
Koch & Bergfeld has manufactured this form without any change to the design since the company was founded in 1829. "Altfaden" was likewise created by Gottfried Koch.
